Can you do the Shangri-La Easter egg solo?

No. The BO1 eclipse script requires four different players to press four sundial buttons around Quick Revive at spawn. One player pressing several buttons does not count. Solo PC fan mods alter this behavior; they are not the original rules.

Turn on both underground power switches near the Bowie Knife and water-driven turbines. For Pack-a-Punch, stand on the statue pressure plates: opposite Quick Revive, in the tunnel between minecart and power, opposite the switches, and between the bridge and waterfall tunnel. The required number of occupied plates matches the current player count (Zombies Codex only describes the four-player case). The stairs rise to the machine above spawn, then water eventually pushes players down. This ordinary solo Pack-a-Punch access does not remove the four-player eclipse requirement.

Bring a 31-79 JGb215 and upgrade it to The Fractalizer before the final crystal shots; also arrange Spikemores, explosives and a Napalm Zombie. Most stages happen in the eclipse. The script sets five-minute limits; the Wiki describes 4–5 minutes. Re-enter the eclipse for stages that time out.

Time Travel Will Tell: BO1 steps

  1. Enter the eclipse. With power on, have four players press the four spawn sundials together. Look for the eclipse and giant meteor above the temple.
  2. Wake Brock and Gary. Use the button in the locked area behind the MPL wall weapon and wait for their dialogue and the symbol tiles.
  3. Match the tiles. One player reads a symbol in the MPL area while another finds its match near the bridge. Stand on matching pairs together to remove them. A wrong match resets the puzzle. Once all pairs disappear, a focusing crystal appears above the MPL boulder.
  4. Complete the water slide in another eclipse. Three players stand on the grate under the waterfall at the bottom; the fourth rides down and uses the hidden side switch during the slide.
  5. Move the waterfall crystal. Knock the crystal ball down with an explosive or Ray Gun, shrink it with the 31-79, then melee it into the slide. Follow it to the geyser and stand there to launch it onto the tower.
  6. Release the gas. In the tunnel near a Pack-a-Punch pressure plate, turn the red valve wheel four times until gas leaks from the walls and ceiling.
  7. Ignite the leaks in that same eclipse. Lead a calm Napalm Zombie from the MPL entrance through the tunnel to power. Once every leak is burning, return to the valve and use the raised lever.
  8. During an eclipse, plug the four MP5K tunnel holes with Spikemore spikes by letting zombies trigger correctly aimed traps. Use the “do not press” brick in the wall by the central boulder below the waterfall. Back in the present, a crystal appears above the mud-pit temple.
  9. Melee all 12 wall symbol panels during an eclipse, then use explosives on the snare / tent beyond the minecart gate. Five panels are around spawn; the remaining search areas include the mud pit, minecart, power and nearby tunnel / bridge routes. Sources disagree on the exact regional split; no unverified count per remaining area is asserted here.
  10. Set the mud-pit dials to 16-1-3-4. Listen to the radio on the box near the minecart gate for the clue. In the eclipse, set the four dials using C = 10, I = 5 and a dot = 1. Another crystal appears above the mud temple.
  11. Listen to the radio by the Pack-a-Punch stairs in the present before the dynamite stage. In the eclipse, melee the four correct gongs out of eight. The selection is random each game. Wrong gongs turn the crystals red; correct resonance leaves them yellow with a Treyarch symbol.
  12. Use The Fractalizer during resonance. Shoot the crystals so the beam knocks dynamite from the crystal near the minecart gate. Put a teammate directly underneath to catch it. Shoot the crystal above the mud temple so converging beams shrink the giant meteor into the temple.
  13. Deliver the dynamite during the eclipse. Open the Pack-a-Punch stairs, where the machine is now absent, and have the carrier use the hole in the back wall to pass it to Brock. After the water returns you to the present, open the stairs again and collect the Focusing Stone floating above the altar, with the back wall now blown open.

Who gets the Focusing Stone reward?

The achievement script awards Time Travel Will Tell to the whole team: 75 Gamerscore / Silver trophy (also Silver on the PS4/PS5 port). Only the player who takes the stone receives every perk and retains them after being downed. After the new radio appears below the temple, listen to it to reset the sundials; the script allows three resets after the first completion, enough for all four players to claim a stone.

The Wiki and BO1 reward script support permanent perks in BO1. Zombies Codex’s introduction instead reserves that reward for BO3, while its own ending lists eight perks. Some guides say seven: the script gives seven base perks plus Mule Kick when that machine is present, making eight in the updated setup.

Shangri-La Easter egg song: Pareidolia

Pareidolia was composed by Kevin Sherwood and sung by Elena Siegman, with Corey Redgrift on keyboards. Hold Interact on three meteor fragments in any order.

Pareidolia meteor search areas: spawn rubble, bridge near moving walls and underground mine beyond AK-74u.
Original editorial diagram, not a game floor plan or screenshot. Positions are approximate, based on the listed sources; arrows show a suggested checklist order.
  1. Spawn: behind Quick Revive, in rubble left of the window, behind a fallen pillar.
  2. Bridge / moving-wall side: near the Juggernog / Speed Cola position. The Wiki describes the bridge-side machine area; Zombies Codex describes the left side of the wooden bridge after the mud maze, and Cyberly describes grass before the bridge. Treat these as alternative nearby landmarks.
  3. Underground mine: after the AK-74u room, in the broken wall opposite Semtex according to the Wiki. Zombies Codex describes the outer wooden platform of the grenade room; Cyberly describes the railing above the water opposite a perk. These finer descriptions have not been independently resolved here.

Other small secrets

Brock and Gary’s moving radio supplies story recordings and quest clues. Quick Revive stays at spawn and Mule Kick is at the waterfall bottom; Juggernog and Speed Cola can swap their surface positions, while the other underground machines have randomized placements. Use landmarks rather than treating a perk name as a fixed compass point.

Common Shangri-La Easter egg failures

Where progress stopsWhat to check
Eclipse will not startAll four distinct players must press the sundials; both power switches must be on.
Gas stage resetsIgnite every leak and use the lever within the same eclipse; a prematurely exploding Napalm Zombie means another attempt.
No dynamite appearsListen to the present-day radio by the Pack-a-Punch stairs first.
Crystal turns red / shot failsRetry the correct gongs; shoot during resonance with The Fractalizer (the upgraded 31-79 JGb215).
Dynamite falls on the groundA teammate must catch it from below; repeat the gong stage if missed.
Panel checklist disagrees with a videoWiki, Game Rant and Accelerated Ideas split the 12 panels differently. All agree on 12 total; the Wiki and Game Rant both put five at spawn. The remaining exact distribution is unresolved.

Shangri-La Easter egg FAQ

QuestionAnswer
Do you need four players?Yes for BO1’s main quest; ordinary solo Pack-a-Punch access is a separate mechanic.
What is the dial code?16-1-3-4 for the mud-pit temple dials.
Does everyone get all perks?Everyone gets the achievement, but only the stone collector gets permanent perks; repeat for other players.
What is the song trigger?Three meteor fragments for Pareidolia; these do not finish Time Travel Will Tell.
Did the PS4 / PS5 port remove the four-player rule?No change was confirmed in the checked sources as of 2026-10-24.

BO1 versus BO3 Zombies Chronicles

BO3 substitutes Trip Mines for Spikemores and Pharo for MPL, and changes the stone’s appearance. Its player-count sources disagree (four in the Wiki, 2–4 in Zombies Codex); neither account changes BO1’s four-distinct-player eclipse rule.
